Guys:

I've moved over to my new rig for COD WaW and everything seems great except for the sound. For some reason, and only with WaW, the game play sounds like a bowl of Rice Krispies. Any idea on how to fix this constant popping sound?

The sound card is a Sound Blaster X-Fi Titanium Fatality ( stupid name ) and the drivers are apparently all up-to-date ( should be since I just bought the rig ).

Any ideas?

make sure the drivers are up to date first, if they are then I would try changing your playback quality setting. Go to control panel-sound-speakers-right click on properties, then see where its set, probably 24 bit 48k hz. Try setting it to cd quality 16 bit, 48k see if that helps. What os are you using?

Polite:

I'm using the 64bit version of Windows7 Home Premium.

The only problem is with Waw MP. I don't have any sound issues with single player or any other application.

In the game, check your sound settings. Go to Options, Sound and make sure the settings match the card you have.

Just in case, here is the link to the most current driver for that card. Bear in mind that the drivers that these cards are shipped with are usually 2 or 3 versions behind.

Things to check:

- Do you have the lastest Direct-X (i.e. DirectSound) installed ?
- If your motherboard has on-board sound, Disable that audio device completely in the BIOS.
- Do you have a webcam connected that has an audio device (microphone)? Disconnect it.
- Are you running outher audio applications at the same time (i.e. Itunes, Media Player)? Don't!
- Does your motherboard support some sort of optional hardware packet acceleration? Shut it off, it can conflict with Windows scheduling.
- Isn't Windows 7 just great ?
- If the soundcard's settings panel has a X-Fi Crystalizer, NEVER USE IT. It is on my X-Fi card, might be on yours.

good comms by all.

Compare the single player seettings to multiplayer such as sound quality level. Don't think single player uses a mic/mic-setting - not sure if the would be any correlation there.

goodluck!

I see your running Windows 7 64Bit version . I too run this OS ..

the question I have is.. what drivers did you load for windows? ..

The reason I ask is because the drivers for my sound card are not available until the end fo this month .. their still catching up to Windows 7 64Bit OS .. drivers don't come easy ..

Is this the driver that is installed..

Wow. WOW!!!! What a maroooooon I am!!! :-[

The guys that assembled my rig didn't even bother installing the Creative software. They just went with a generic Microsoft driver. Wouldn't you know it, but when I installed the proper software/driver everything works great and my sound quality has improved immensely. Who would have thunk it?!?!?

Sorry for the waste of time guys but thanks for all the great suggestions.

Shik - my driver was updated from version 2.17.0007 to version 6.0.1.1347 ( 13/07/2009 ) by the auto updater from Creative.

It doesn't matter what my sound settings are at. I always hear you sneaking up behind me. There's a distinct "shik" sound as you hamstring me with your knife. ;)
